Layoff Report

Anyone else seeing the post-layoff turnover spike?

I survived the October cuts, but honestly, I don't think I’m staying much longer. The 10/16 layoff in Plainfield wasn’t just a one-time adjustment; it’s created this lingering toxicity that’s impossible to ignore. Every time there’s a sync or a team meeting, everyone is looking over their shoulder wondering if they’re next. It’s hard to stay focused on shipping product when the company keeps telegraphing that our roles are essentially disposable assets. I know a handful of people who were already on the fence, and the way the layoffs were handled was the final straw. They're updating their resumes as we speak. Is anyone else noticing the brain drain? We’re losing some of the best engineering talent in our division, and the people staying are just burning out trying to backfill the gaps. Leadership claims we're 'streamlining,' but it feels like we're just hollowing out the organization. I’m starting to look at other firms in the space—ones that actually value retention instead of just using layoffs as a PR tool to make the margin look slightly better on paper. Is the sentiment the same in other offices, or is it just my department that feels like a sinking ship?

I totally feel you. The vibe in the office has shifted from mission-focused to pure self-preservation. It’s impossible to ignore the morale drop, and when leadership talks about growth while cutting the people who actually build the tech, it creates a massive trust deficit. I’ve started updating my resume, too. There’s only so much 'we're a family' talk you can take before it starts feeling like gaslighting. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do next.

It is frustrating to watch, but honestly, this is just how the company operates. They have always prioritized their specific vision over individual tenure. If you are feeling that constant anxiety, it is probably a sign that your values no longer align with the internal culture. Instead of sticking around to see if things stabilize, just take your talent elsewhere. Plenty of shops out there value engineering stability over whatever this cycle of fear is trying to accomplish.
