Seriously, how am I supposed to care about 'exceeding expectations' when I'm worried about keeping my job? My performance review felt completely disconnected from reality. My manager gave me some generic feedback, but the whole time I was just wondering if this was the prelude to being let go. The whole process feels like a massive waste of time when the company might be planning a reduction in force. Morale is already low, and this just makes it worse. Just be transparent about the situation instead of pretending everything is fine! I spend half my day checking the news and this forum – its exhausting!

I feel you. It's incredibly hard to focus on 'growth' when you're bracing for impact. My last company did the same thing right before a huge layoff. They even gave some people glowing reviews only to axe them weeks later. It's demoralizing and makes you question everything. Start documenting your accomplishments now, just in case. And maybe quietly update your resume...

Honestly, performance reviews are *always* a bit of a joke. They're HR theater. If there are layoff rumors, take it with a grain of salt and focus on what you can control: your daily work. Don't let it stress you out too much. It probably doesn't have much bearing on layoff decisions anyway - those are usually based on broader strategic goals and cost-cutting measures.
