I am so sorry you are going through this. The waiting game is honestly the worst part of the entire process. When I went through a similar layoff, the silence in the office was deafening. It feels like everyone is holding their breath waiting for that calendar notification to pop up. Please remember that your worth is not tied to your employment status or some arbitrary efficiency metric decided by leadership. Regardless of what happens today, take care of yourself, pack up your personal items quietly, and keep your head held high.
It is brutal how they use these buzzwords like 'new chapter' and 'efficiency' while completely ignoring the human toll. At the end of the day, we are just line items on a spreadsheet to these executives trying to boost their stock price for the next earnings call. If you have not gotten the invite yet, keep your resume updated and start downloading any non-proprietary work samples you might need for your portfolio. Do not give them the satisfaction of seeing you break; just do what you need to do and get out of there as soon as you can.
