Is anyone actually surprised by the Columbia layoffs?

Honestly, after seeing the news about the headquarters roles being gutted, I figured it was only a matter of time before it trickled down to regional facilities like Columbia. It feels like the company is just slashing and burning to keep the stock price propped up while ignoring the people who actually keep the trucks moving. My manager wouldn’t look me in the eye during the stand-up today. We’re all just numbers on a spreadsheet to them at this point. I’ve been polishing my resume since the news broke yesterday, because there's no way this is the end of it. Good luck to everyone affected—this place isn't what it used to be five years ago.

It is honestly depressing to watch how they handle these regional cuts. I have been at my facility for years, and the atmosphere has shifted from being a team to just feeling like a line item they are desperate to trim. Management has been acting cold and detached for months, which was the biggest red flag. Nobody is shocked, but that does not make it any easier to deal with the constant anxiety about whether my site is next on the chopping block.

I have been following the corporate moves closely, and this strategy is clearly about satisfying shareholders at the expense of long-term operational stability. It is frustrating because the people running these regional sites are the ones actually sustaining the brand, yet they are treated as completely disposable. I am sorry you are going through this, but given the current corporate culture, it is smart to start looking elsewhere. Loyalty is clearly a one-way street with them these days.
