Anyone else noticing the travel freeze?

Is it just my department, or is the travel budget being locked down tight across the board? I had a few site visits planned for next month that just got pinged with 'additional leadership review' requirements, which usually means they’re looking for any excuse to axe the spend. The atmosphere feels a lot more tense lately, and every time someone mentions a 'strategic realignment' in a meeting, I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Usually, when the belts tighten this early in the quarter without a major project pivot, it’s a precursor to some headcount adjustments. Trying to figure out if I should keep my head down or start brushing up the resume. Has anyone heard whispers from HR or their VPs about a Q3 target or a shift in the OpEx goals?

It is definitely not just your department. I’ve been hearing the exact same chatter from colleagues in different sectors. Ever since the talk of 'strategic realignment' started hitting the internal memos, the travel approval process has become a total bottleneck. It feels like they are making it intentionally difficult to justify any outside movement to save cash. Keep your head down and document everything; it definitely feels like they’re preparing for a rough quarter ahead.

Same boat here. My team had a conference proposal sitting in the queue for weeks, and it just got hit with those 'additional leadership reviews' out of nowhere. Honestly, the atmosphere has been incredibly tense lately. Every time leadership brings up 'optimizing expenditures' during town halls, you know exactly what’s coming next. It is clearly a company-wide initiative, not just a localized issue, so don't take it personally. Just prepare yourself for more austerity measures until the end of the year.
