Is the Houston office feeling the vibe shift?

Is it just me, or has the energy in the halls felt weirdly tense lately? I know we aren't officially hearing anything about a reduction in force, but the amount of 'strategic alignment' emails and closed-door meetings in the regional office is starting to look like a familiar script. I’ve been through a few cycles in the energy sector before, and this specific brand of radio silence from leadership is usually the precursor to a painful Friday morning call. My direct supervisor is suddenly spending all day in conference rooms and refuses to give a straight answer on project funding for Q4. If anyone has heard whispers about budget tightening or hiring freezes in their specific business unit, please share. I’m just trying to decide if I need to update the resume this weekend or if I’m just being paranoid.

The energy in the Westchase building is definitely off. You aren't imagining things. Those vague emails about 'optimizing our organizational structure' are the exact same language they used right before the last round of layoffs. Everyone is keeping their heads down, and the lack of transparency from the top is honestly just adding to the anxiety. If you notice your manager suddenly going dark or spending all day in back-to-back HR meetings, that’s usually the biggest red flag. Start backing up your personal files and polishing the resume now, just in case.

Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. Every time the market fluctuates or margins tighten, people start looking for patterns in the closed doors and email sign-offs. Phillips 66 has always been a bit corporate and bureaucratic; that’s just the nature of the beast in this industry. It’s easy to get caught up in the rumor mill, but most of these 'strategic alignment' meetings are probably just budget forecasting for the next quarter. Just keep doing your job, stay off the radar, and try not to let the speculation ruin your mental health.
