Middle management keeping secrets again?

Is anyone else getting that familiar, sinking feeling during these 'all-hands' meetings? We just had another leadership sync where they spent 45 minutes talking about 'synergy' and 'optimizing our portfolio,' but didn't address the hiring freeze or the complete lack of project budget approvals. It feels like we are in that pre-announcement purgatory again. Everyone I talk to in engineering is keeping their resume updated, just in case. The energy in the office is noticeably different compared to six months ago—people are keeping their heads down, no one is joking around, and the LinkedIn activity from coworkers is spiking. If there’s nothing going on, why does it feel like we’re all holding our breath waiting for a calendar invite titled 'Important Business Update' on a Friday afternoon? Has anyone heard anything concrete, or are we just reading too much into the silence?

The 'synergy' buzzwords are the universal sign of impending layoffs at P66. We’ve all seen this movie before—management dances around the lack of budget while telling us to keep our heads down and push harder. If engineering is already polishing their resumes, that’s your best indicator. When leadership stops being transparent, it usually means they are finalizing severance packages behind closed doors. Don’t wait for an official announcement to start networking; the writing is clearly on the wall for anyone paying attention.

It is honestly exhausting to sit through those meetings. They talk about optimizing the portfolio, but the only thing being optimized is the head count. I’ve noticed the same shift in the hallways; people are quiet, eyes are glued to their desks, and the general vibe is just tense. It’s hard to stay motivated when you know the budget for your actual projects has been gutted, yet you're expected to act like everything is business as usual. Best of luck to you—it feels like it’s time to move on before the inevitable happens.
