Vendor cuts or something more?

Noticed a significant uptick in terminated contractor contracts over the last two weeks. Usually, when the headcount of external support drops this aggressively, it’s a precursor to cost-cutting measures hitting the full-time staff. It feels like they’re trying to stabilize the books before making an announcement. Has anyone else noticed the uptick in 'efficiency audits' in their department? I’ve seen two internal teams get merged into one reporting structure in the last month with zero explanation provided. It feels like we are being set up for a consolidation event. If this is just business as usual, it’s being handled in the most opaque way possible. Staying sharp, but the anxiety in the breakroom is palpable.

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing in my division. The efficiency audits are definitely ramping up, and it’s creating a ton of anxiety in the office. We had three senior contractors let go without any warning last Tuesday, and the rumor mill is already working overtime. Management keeps talking about 'streamlining' to appease investors, but it feels like they are just prepping the ground for a major reduction in force. It’s hard to stay focused when you’re constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Honestly, the writing is on the wall. When you see contractors being slashed across the board like this, full-time staff is almost always next on the chopping block. They are trying to tighten the budget to make the quarterly numbers look better, and we are the ones who pay the price. I’ve noticed the same weird shifts in reporting structures, and it’s clearly an attempt to consolidate power and reduce overhead. Just keep your resume updated and start networking outside the company while you still have the chance.
