Travel center support team: heads up

Heard through the grapevine that corporate is tightening the screws on operational budgets again. Every time we hear about 'efficiency initiatives' at Pilot, someone usually ends up getting a calendar invite for a 'private sync' with an HR rep. My manager was acting incredibly nervous during our 1:1 yesterday and kept avoiding questions about project headcount for Q3 and Q4. If you’re in support, logistics, or back-office, keep your head on a swivel. I’m not saying there’s a mass event happening tomorrow, but the shift in tone from the execs is pretty telling. Don’t wait until they lock your access to start backing up your personal files and contacts. Good luck to everyone out there.

The 'efficiency' buzzword is always a massive red flag. I remember the last time they started using that language, and it ended in a brutal round of departures that nobody saw coming. If your manager is dodging questions about Q3 and Q4, that’s usually a sign that they’ve already been told what’s coming but aren’t allowed to spill the details yet. Polish up that resume and start saving every extra cent you can. It’s better to be over-prepared and safe than caught completely off guard when the calendar invites start flooding in.

Honestly, I’m not surprised. This happens every single fiscal cycle, yet it feels like the same cycle of anxiety every time. I’ve seen enough of these 'private syncs' at Pilot to know exactly how they play out. If you've got access to any critical documentation or projects, make sure your notes are clean and your handovers are organized just in case you suddenly lose access. Keep your head down, do your work, and stop looking for answers from leadership—they’re just as stressed and clueless as the rest of us until the axe falls.
