Anyone else still reeling from the internal tracker fallout?

It’s been a few days since the news dropped about the engineers who got canned for the tracker tool, and honestly, the atmosphere here is suffocating. I’ve never seen morale hit this low. People aren't even talking at lunch anymore because we're all terrified that one wrong Slack message or one internal tool query will flag us as 'obstructionist.' We’re all just staring at our calendars, wondering if we’re next on the chopping block for the next wave of 'roadmap realignment.' Management keeps talking about the pivot toward generative tools and the future of the product, but how are we supposed to build anything meaningful when the culture is built on fear? I have friends in other orgs who are quietly checking their resumes because they don't want to be the next headline. It’s not just the layoffs; it’s the way they handled the transparency. You can’t claim to be a creative, user-first company while treating your own builders like they’re saboteurs for wanting data on their own job security. If you’re currently working on a project, keep your head down and start looking elsewhere. This place is turning into a ghost town.

The culture there has been toxic for a while, but this really feels like the final nail in the coffin. It is impossible to produce high-quality work when you are constantly looking over your shoulder. If they are monitoring internal tool queries to that extent, it’s not just a 'roadmap alignment'—it is active surveillance. You should prioritize your mental health and start looking for an exit strategy immediately. No paycheck is worth living in constant paranoia, and honestly, you have enough experience to find a much healthier environment elsewhere.

I honestly don't know why anyone stays in that environment once the trust is broken. Once management starts using 'internal trackers' to police employees, the company is effectively admitting they have lost control of their culture. It’s a classic sign of a sinking ship trying to pin the failure on individual contributors rather than executive decision-making. Don't wait for your own name to pop up on that list. Brush up your resume, reach out to your network, and get out before the next wave of layoffs hits.
