Layoff Tracker Incident - What Was That All About?

Okay, so I'm still trying to wrap my head around that whole situation with the internal layoff tracker. Reports are saying engineers who built it were let go. If that's true, it's pretty wild. On one hand, I get that maybe management sees it as 'obstructionist' or undermining their process. But on the other, isn't transparency usually a good thing, especially during tough times? Employees want to know what's going on, and having a tool to track that, even internally, seems like a way to manage the anxiety and uncertainty. Firing people for building it just feels... heavy-handed. It raises serious questions about trust and communication within the company. What message does that send to the rest of the workforce? Feels like a major misstep in handling these difficult conversations.

This whole internal layoff tracker drama is seriously bizarre. I saw some of the posts about engineers building it getting laid off, and honestly, my jaw dropped. It feels like a massive misstep. Even if management thought it was a hindrance, firing the people who created a tool for transparency? That sends a terrible message and breeds distrust, especially when people are already on edge.

Reading about the layoff tracker incident, it's definitely a head-scratcher. My take is that while management might have felt it was out of their control, shutting down internal communication channels, especially ones designed to provide clarity during layoffs, is a recipe for disaster. Employees need to feel informed, and an internal tracker, however imperfect, could have been a step in that direction. Seems like a missed opportunity to build confidence.
