I have noticed the exact same shift in behavior from the regional leads. It’s the constant, redundant check-ins that give it away. They aren't actually interested in the project progress; they are desperate to demonstrate that their departments are 'essential' to the bottom line. When leadership starts throwing around buzzwords like 'synergy' and 'footprint optimization,' it’s time to stop drinking the Kool-Aid and start polishing the LinkedIn profile. The anxiety is palpable, and frankly, I don't trust any of the assurances they’ve given us this quarter.
Honestly, the panic is starting to feel performative at this point. Everyone knows the industry is facing headwinds, but watching the middle managers scramble to look busy while the higher-ups stay radio silent is exhausting. I wouldn't waste time trying to read between the lines of the town halls. They are just stalling while they finalize whatever structural changes are coming down the pipeline. If your manager is acting erratic, it’s because they’re likely just as in the dark as we are. Just keep your head down and get those files backed up externally.
