Feeling the pressure to do more with less

I’m tired of the 'do more with less' mantra. My manager keeps pushing new initiatives and adding responsibilities to our plates, but there isn't any extra support or resources to actually get the work done. It feels like they are trying to prove we can operate with a smaller team, which sounds suspiciously like they're prepping us for a reduction in force. Every week there’s a new metric to track or a report to generate that adds zero value to the customer experience, just busy work to justify our existence. If they wanted to cut costs, they could start by looking at the bloated middle management layer instead of squeezing the people who actually keep the facilities running. I’m honestly exhausted and checking LinkedIn during my lunch break every single day. If they’re planning a cut, I just wish they’d rip the band-aid off so we can stop living in this state of anxiety. Anyone else feeling like they’re being set up to be pushed out?

I’ve been at Public Storage for a while and I recognize exactly what you're dealing with. The constant push for more metrics and new initiatives without additional staff is the corporate playbook for tightening the belt. It feels like they create 'busy work' just to keep everyone scrambling so nobody has time to look at the bigger picture of how unsustainable the current workload is. Keep your head down, document everything you do, and don't take the extra workload personally—it's a systemic issue, not a reflection of your efficiency.

Honestly, the 'do more with less' approach is just a way to squeeze the life out of the remaining team members until they burn out. At Public Storage, it often feels like we are just numbers on a spreadsheet being optimized for the next quarterly report. If you feel like they are prepping for a reduction, start polishing your resume now. It is better to have an exit strategy ready than to be blindsided when the next round of 'restructuring' hits your department. Prioritize what actually matters and let the pointless reports slide when you can.
