Why are we hiring for roles they said were redundant?

I’m genuinely confused by the internal job board right now. Last month, we were told to cut costs and tighten the belt on discretionary spending for our facilities, yet I’m seeing listings for corporate roles in departments that were supposedly being merged or outsourced. Does anyone actually know what the strategy is here? It feels like one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I’ve seen enough reorgs to know that when we start posting new roles while simultaneously tightening site-level budgets, it usually means they are clearing out the legacy staff to bring in cheaper labor or specialized contractors. I’ve been looking at my team and wondering who is actually safe. It’s impossible to plan for the future when leadership is talking about 'growth' in some areas while the regional managers are breathing down our necks about every single line item in the budget. Is anyone else feeling this disconnect? Or is this just the new normal for Public Storage as we try to compete with the smaller, more agile players in the self-storage space? If you’ve heard anything about budget freezes turning into actual departures, please post below.

That’s Public Storage for you. They always love to preach 'operational efficiency' to the boots on the ground while hiring bloated corporate roles to manage people who are already doing the job. Don't look for a grand strategy; it’s just the usual disconnect between the regional managers and the ivory tower. They're probably backfilling positions they realized they can't actually automate, or it's just budget mismanagement disguised as 'strategic realignment.' Keep your head down and update your resume, because this cycle never ends well for the site staff.

It’s honestly infuriating to watch. I’ve seen this pattern three times now: they squeeze the facility budgets until everything is held together by duct tape, claiming we're 'streamlining,' and then suddenly a bunch of new director-level titles pop up in the internal listings. It feels like they’re just shuffling chairs on the Titanic. If you’re seeing these postings, it usually means the reorg was poorly planned from the start. I wouldn't bank on any of these corporate roles bringing actual stability. Just expect more 'belt-tightening' announcements by next quarter.
