Anyone else feel like layoffs are always looming?

I've been at Raytheon for almost 8 years now, and it feels like every couple of years there's some kind of "restructuring" or "realignment" that ends up with people getting laid off. I'm in engineering, and while my team has been relatively stable, I can't shake the feeling that it's only a matter of time before the axe falls again. Anyone else feel this way? Is it just the nature of the defense industry, or is Raytheon particularly prone to these cycles? Seriously considering jumping ship, but the benefits are so good it's hard to leave. Just curious if others are feeling the same anxiety.

Totally get where you're coming from. I've been here a bit longer, and the cycles are definitely real. Defense is always subject to political winds and budget cuts, so it's not *just* Raytheon, but they seem to optimize a lot. If you're feeling uneasy, start networking outside the company and freshen up your resume. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Good luck!

Honestly, I think it's a bit overblown. Yeah, there have been some reorganizations, but layoffs haven't been as widespread as some people make out. Focus on being a valuable asset – consistently meeting your goals, taking on new challenges, and making yourself indispensable. If you're performing well, you're much less likely to be on the chopping block. Just my two cents.
