Severance package - what to expect?

Hypothetically speaking, if a layoff were to happen, what kind of severance package does Raytheon typically offer? I'm a program manager with 12 years at the company. I've heard whispers that it varies depending on your role and years of service, but I'm looking for some real-world examples. Anyone willing to share their experiences (anonymously, of course)? Was it based on salary, years of service, or a combination of both? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Trying to be prepared, just in case.

From what I've gathered over the years, it's usually a combination, heavily weighted towards years of service. For a program manager with 12 years, I'd *guess* you're looking at something like 2 weeks per year of service, plus maybe some outplacement services. But it can vary wildly based on the specific situation, your performance reviews, and what kind of mood the company is in that quarter. Don't count on anything until you see it in writing.

Honestly, don't get your hopes up too high. While they might offer *something*, remember that Raytheon is ultimately looking out for Raytheon. I wouldn't be surprised if the severance package is less generous than you expect, especially given the current economic climate. Start polishing your resume and networking now. Severance is nice, but a new job lined up is even better. Treat the severance as just a little breathing room, not a golden parachute.
