Suddenly getting micromanaged

Is it just my department, or is the oversight becoming insane lately? Suddenly every single task, expense, and meeting output is being scrutinized like we’re under a microscope. I’ve been here for a few years and the autonomy has always been the best part of the job, but lately, it feels like they’re trying to build a case to trim people without having to pay severance. It’s constant 'check-ins' and excessive reporting requirements that literally add no value to the portfolio. It feels like they are looking for any excuse to flag someone for a PIP. If they are planning a reduction in force, why not just be transparent about it instead of making the work environment toxic for the remaining staff? I’m exhausted by the constant pressure to justify my existence when we’re all clearly just dealing with the same market headwinds as everyone else in the sector. Definitely looking at the exit signs.

It’s definitely not just you. I’ve noticed the exact same shift in my group over the last quarter. The shift from 'get it done' to 'document every single breath' is exhausting and honestly a massive waste of billable time. It feels like upper management is spooked by something, and instead of leading, they’re tightening the screws to see who breaks first. Don't take it personally; the culture is definitely leaning toward 'paper trail first' right now, and it’s dragging down everyone’s morale. Keep your head down, but start updating that resume just in case.
