Unexplained system access issues this morning

Logged in this morning and found my access to a few shared folders and the proprietary internal database was restricted. I’m not in a sensitive role or anything, so this shouldn't be happening. When I reached out to IT, they gave me a vague response about 'system maintenance' and 'permission updates,' but it felt weirdly scripted. I’ve seen this pattern at previous firms right before they announce a reduction in force. Has anyone else experienced sudden locked accounts or weird IT glitches today? I’m worried that this is the beginning of the quiet 'culling' process. I've already started pulling my performance metrics and personal files just in case, because I'm not getting caught off guard if a calendar invite for a 'mandatory check-in' pops up tomorrow morning. If something is going down, I’d rather know now than wait for the company-wide town hall that probably won't tell us anything useful anyway.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Realty Income has been doing a lot of structural integration lately, and these IT 'glitches' are often just a byproduct of server migrations or security patches being pushed out across different departments. It’s annoying when you lose access to your workflow, but if there was actually a RIF coming, the communication would likely be handled by HR rather than IT desk tickets. Try to log in again in a few hours; usually, these permissions reset once the sync finishes.

That script sounds way too familiar. I’ve lived through three rounds of layoffs at different firms, and that specific 'system maintenance' excuse is almost always the standard cover story for revoking access before a formal announcement. If you're seeing people in your team getting locked out unexpectedly, take it as a serious warning sign. Start backing up any non-sensitive personal files and update your resume today. It’s better to be prepared for the worst than to be caught off guard when the calendar invite for a 'mandatory meeting' drops.
