Has anyone heard anything about Q4 headcounts?

Is it just me, or is the mood on the floor getting noticeably weirder lately? I’ve been hearing a lot of vague chatter from leadership about 'optimizing our regional structures' during the last few all-hands, but nobody wants to say the quiet part out loud. Ever since the last quarterly earnings missed, the pressure to cut travel budgets and external contractor spend has become insane. I’ve seen three different roles in my department go dark after the person left, and they aren't even bothering to post the backfills anymore. It feels like they’re trying to trim the fat through attrition rather than doing a big, loud RIF. Is anyone else seeing this in your business unit? I’m trying to figure out if I should start polishing the resume now or if I’m just being paranoid because of the industry-wide slowdown.

The 'optimizing' buzzword is always the first sign that leadership is prepping for a RIF. I’ve noticed the same pattern in my group; positions aren't being backfilled, and they are essentially forcing everyone left to pick up the slack without any additional compensation. It’s definitely not just you. The silence from management is the most frustrating part because it keeps everyone on edge instead of just ripping the bandage off. At this point, I’m just keeping my head down and updating my resume, because if the growth numbers don't improve by next quarter, these quiet structural changes are only going to get more aggressive.

Honestly, the vibe at the office has been completely tanked for weeks. It feels like every time we turn around, there’s another layer of bureaucracy added or a new travel freeze that makes it impossible to actually do the job. If they’re cutting contractor spend, that usually means the internal teams are going to be gutted next. It is incredibly demoralizing to watch talented people leave and see their desks sit empty while the higher-ups talk about 'streamlining' in those canned all-hands meetings. Everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it feels like we’re all just working until we get the inevitable invite for a 'private chat'.
