Performance review season approaching - thoughts on potential impact?

With performance reviews right around the corner, I'm getting a bit anxious. Normally, it's just the usual process, but with the current economic climate and the general uncertainty I'm hearing about (even without official layoff news), I'm wondering if this year's reviews might carry more weight than usual. Are managers being told to be more critical? Are ratings going to be more tightly managed? I've heard whispers about 'right-sizing' and 'optimizing' in some internal comms, which always makes me a bit nervous. Anyone have any intel from their managers or HR about how this year's review cycle might differ? Trying to prepare myself for what might be coming, whatever that may be. Feeling like I need to have my ducks in a row, just in case.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. The 'economic climate' talk is definitely making its way around, and it's hard not to read into those 'optimization' buzzwords. I'm trying to focus on documenting my achievements clearly and making sure my contributions are visible, but there's an undercurrent of worry, for sure. Hoping for the best, but preparing for potential bumps.

It's a valid concern. While I haven't heard anything concrete about managers being instructed to be harsher, the general corporate messaging about efficiency and 'right-sizing' does create an atmosphere where performance might be scrutinized more closely. It's probably wise to be extra prepared with examples of your impact and value to the team this cycle.
