Anyone else seeing the hiring freeze move to 'indefinite'?

I had a friend who was in final rounds for a manager position over in the device group. Last week, the recruiter went completely dark. Today, they finally sent the form letter saying the headcount was 'no longer authorized.' It’s the second time I’ve heard of this happening this month. If they aren’t even finishing the hiring process for backfills, it’s pretty obvious what the budget outlook looks like for the rest of the year. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth sticking around for the RSUs to vest next month or if I should just jump ship now. The platform is feeling bloated and the pivot toward ad-revenue focus feels like it’s struggling to gain the traction they promised shareholders. I love the tech, but the constant shadow of layoffs is killing my productivity. Every time I get a notification for a calendar invite titled 'Business Update,' my stomach drops. Is everyone else just biding their time, or are you actually looking for exits? I’m starting to think the writing is on the wall, regardless of what leadership says in the next town hall.

That is brutal, especially getting ghosted after final rounds. It definitely sounds like leadership is bracing for a rough couple of quarters. If they are cutting backfills, it usually means the priority is strictly cash preservation rather than growth. Personally, I would look at the RSU vesting schedule and compare it to your mental health. If those shares are underwater or the cliff is too far away, no job is worth the constant anxiety of a sinking ship. Start updating your resume just in case.

Same situation here. We had a few open roles in my department that were 'in flight' for months, and they all got nuked last Tuesday. It is a terrible look for the company, but at this point, we should all assume the worst regarding the rest of the year. I have stopped counting on the equity being worth anything significant in the short term. Just do your eight hours, stay off the radar, and keep your options open elsewhere. Loyalty to a company doing mass freezes is a losing game.
