Quietly purging Slack channels? What’s the word on headcount?

Is it just me, or has the office vibe been absolutely miserable lately? I’ve noticed several familiar faces from the product team have been removed from our internal directories over the last 48 hours without a word. No goodbye emails, no 'moving on to new opportunities' LinkedIn posts, just gone. I reached out to a colleague in HR to ask about a project handover and got the most evasive, robotic response I’ve ever seen. Management keeps pushing the 'operational efficiency' line in the all-hands, but we all know that’s code for the next wave. I’ve been here for three years and I’ve never seen morale this low. People are keeping their heads down and refreshing their resumes between meetings. If they’re planning another 10% cut, I wish they’d just rip the band-aid off so we can all stop checking our Slack status every five minutes. Has anyone heard anything concrete from the middle-management layer? Are we looking at another Q3 purge?

I noticed the same thing. My team had two people vanish from the org chart on Tuesday morning with zero communication from leadership. It is impossible to get a straight answer from anyone in management right now. They keep repeating that we need to stay focused on shipping, but it is hard to concentrate when the person sitting next to you yesterday is suddenly erased. The silence from the top is deafening and only makes the paranoia worse. If they are planning another round of layoffs, they should just own it instead of playing these games with our Slack access.

Honestly, stop looking for answers on the internal directory. If leadership is pulling the classic 'stealth cut' maneuver, you aren't going to get a memo until after it’s all done. Just keep your head down, update your resume, and save whatever portfolio samples you can while you still have access. The office morale is in the basement for a reason—everyone can sense that the atmosphere is toxic right now. It is clearly another round of trimming to hit quarterly numbers, and unfortunately, we are all just line items on a spreadsheet to them.
