Back to the Office Mandate AND Layoffs? What's Going On?

So, got the news today. Definitely a tough one. But what's really confusing is the timing. We're being told to get back into the office by October, but then they announce these layoffs? It feels like a weird double whammy. Are they trying to cut costs by reducing office space *and* headcount? Or is it more about pushing people out who aren't 'committed' enough to return? It just feels like a lot of mixed messages and it's creating a ton of anxiety. I'm trying to figure out if this is a strategic move to reshape the company or just a chaotic reaction to market pressures. Anyone else feeling this disconnect? What's the vibe on the ground regarding the RTO push now that this has happened?

It's definitely a stressful situation when those kinds of announcements come down, especially close together. The office return mandate alongside layoffs does raise some questions about the company's direction and priorities. It's understandable why people are feeling anxious and looking for clarity. Hopefully, management will provide more context soon to ease some of the uncertainty that's clearly brewing among the team.

This sounds incredibly disheartening. The combination of a return-to-office push and then significant layoffs feels contradictory and can make employees question the company's stability and leadership's decision-making. It's a tough pill to swallow when you're trying to navigate your career amidst such mixed signals. Wishing everyone impacted the best as they figure out their next steps.
