RTO mandates and layoffs... Salesforce management playing games?

Between the constant layoffs and the push for mandatory RTO (Return To Office) in October, it feels like management at Salesforce is just throwing darts at a board. They want us back in the office, but then they're cutting jobs? It doesn't make much sense. Is this a tactic to get people to quit voluntarily so they don't have to pay severance, or are they genuinely trying to restructure while also forcing people back? I'm hearing mixed signals everywhere. Some managers seem clueless, others are hinting that the RTO is tied to performance reviews which could lead to more cuts. This uncertainty is brutal. Anyone have insights into the strategy here, or is it just chaos?

It's a really confusing time for everyone. The RTO push feels out of sync with the continued workforce reductions. It's hard to shake the feeling that there's a disconnect between leadership's stated goals and the actions being taken on the ground. Trying to navigate this uncertainty is incredibly stressful, especially when you're unsure about your role's future and the expectation to be physically present in an office that might not even be there in a few months for some teams. It feels like a lose-lose situation for many employees right now.
