Salesforce Layoffs: Is AI Really the Culprit, or Just an Excuse?

Seeing a lot of chatter about the recent Salesforce layoffs and the 'AI' angle. I've been here a while, and while I'm definitely worried about my own job security, I'm also skeptical. It feels like 'AI' is the new buzzword everyone trots out to justify cuts, but is it really that transformative *right now* to warrant shedding thousands of people? Or is it more about cost-cutting, restructuring, and maybe even offshoring, with AI just being a convenient narrative? I've seen how some of these tools work, and while they're promising, I don't see them fully replacing entire teams overnight. Curious to hear from others who are closer to the ground, especially in areas where AI is supposedly having a big impact. Are you seeing actual role displacement, or is it more about process optimization? Trying to get a realistic picture here, not just more corporate speak.

I've been in this industry long enough to see trends come and go. 'Digital transformation' was the buzzword a few years ago, and now it's all about the new tech. Often, these big shifts are used as cover for more traditional business decisions that were likely already in motion. It's always tough to see people go, regardless of the stated reasons.

It’s easy to blame a shiny new technology, but the reality is often much more complex. There are many factors influencing staffing decisions at large companies, from market conditions to internal strategic pivots. Sometimes, efficiency drives and realignment of resources become the main motivators, and the 'why' gets simplified for public consumption.
