Anyone else feeling the 'optimizing' vibes lately?

Is it just me, or has the atmosphere at SanDisk turned into a waiting game? I’ve noticed a lot more 'efficiency' talk from leadership during the town halls lately, and we all know what that usually signals in this industry. Projects are being sunsetted left and right, and the communication from upper management has shifted from being about product innovation to being exclusively about 'resource alignment' and 'margin improvement.' I’ve been through a couple of cycles like this before, and it always starts with these vague, ominous emails about the macroeconomic climate followed by a sudden freezing of requisitions. My team is currently buried in work, but the mood in the office—or what’s left of it on Slack—is noticeably tense. Nobody wants to be the one to ask the question, but the elephant in the room is definitely getting bigger. Has anyone heard any whispers from the VP level about potential Q3 restructuring? I’m trying to decide if I should start polishing the resume now or wait until the inevitable calendar invites start popping up out of nowhere. It feels like we’re holding our breath waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I’ve been tracking the same shifts. The pivot from innovation-focused roadmap updates to constant talk about 'resource alignment' is a classic red flag. It feels like they are stripping down the legacy engineering talent to prioritize short-term margins over long-term tech development. I’ve seen this script play out way too many times in this sector. If you are starting to see projects quietly shelved without a clear replacement, it is time to start polishing your resume and networking outside the company. Trust your gut—the vibe is definitely off.

Honestly, it feels like the current leadership is just managing the decline at this point. Every town hall feels scripted to sound like growth, but the actual day-to-day work is just maintenance and sunsetting. It’s hard to stay motivated when the focus is exclusively on margin improvement rather than pushing the envelope on new storage tech. I’ve noticed the talented engineers starting to head for the exits, and that’s usually the final indicator that the writing is on the wall. Don't wait for a formal announcement; start looking for your next move now.
