The hiring while simultaneously pushing cost-cutting measures is a classic sign of internal misalignment. It’s infuriating when leadership plays these games while those of us in the trenches are left dealing with the fallout. If your manager is being tight-lipped, that’s usually the biggest red flag that they know exactly what’s coming down the pipe and are just waiting for the official announcement. Start polishing your resume now; it’s better to have a jump on the market before the company tries to spin the next round of restructuring as a strategic pivot. Don't wait for them to give you a reason to leave.
I've been at SanDisk long enough to recognize this pattern. Every time they start talking about 'streamlining' or 'synergy,' layoffs are right around the corner. They post those new roles to keep up appearances and prevent a mass exodus of talent they actually want to keep, but it's all optics. The disconnect between upper management and the floor has never been wider. If you're already feeling the anxiety, listen to your gut and start quietly networking elsewhere. It’s just business, and you need to prioritize your own stability over whatever vague mission statement they're pushing this quarter.
