SAP's cloud push and the human cost

This latest round of layoffs at SAP is really making me question the company's direction. They keep saying they're pivoting hard to the cloud, which is fine, it's the market trend. But the way they're executing this transition feels incredibly brutal. It's not just about eliminating redundancies; it feels like they're actively dismantling parts of the business that still have value and require human expertise, only to replace it with... what exactly? More automation? A skeleton crew? I work in a division that's been heavily impacted by these cuts, and the morale is in the basement. People who have dedicated years to building up specific knowledge bases are now out on the street. It makes you wonder if the long-term strategy is sustainable if it relies on sacrificing so much institutional knowledge. Are the projected cloud gains worth the immediate pain and disruption caused by these constant workforce reductions? It's hard to see how this benefits the remaining employees or the company's ability to innovate and deliver for customers in the long run. Anyone else feel like the 'cloud transformation' is just a euphemism for something more drastic?

It's a tough situation for everyone involved. This cloud transition is a massive undertaking, and unfortunately, these shifts often have a significant impact on the workforce. While the long-term vision is cloud-centric, the immediate reality for those affected is undoubtedly difficult. It’s disheartening to see experienced teams dismantled when they still hold critical knowledge.

The focus on cloud is undeniable, but the human element seems to be getting lost in the shuffle. It raises questions about whether the strategy prioritizes immediate cost savings over sustainable growth and retaining institutional knowledge. The market is moving, yes, but the execution here feels particularly sharp-edged.
