Feeling the pressure - performance reviews are intense this cycle.

Okay, so I haven't seen any official layoff news for my specific team or department, but the vibe around performance reviews this year feels...different. Way more intense. It feels like there's a much higher bar being set, and the language used around 'impact' and 'efficiency' is definitely amplified. It's making me a little nervous, especially with all the broader tech layoffs happening. I've always tried to do good work, but suddenly it feels like you have to constantly prove your value in a way that wasn't as pronounced before. Some colleagues are definitely feeling the same way, and we've been talking about it quietly. It's not a full-blown panic, but it's definitely a heightened sense of awareness. Has anyone else experienced this ramp-up in performance review scrutiny at Shopify recently? Wondering if it's a company-wide thing or just my area. Trying to prepare myself, but the underlying thought of 'am I safe?' is definitely there. Any tips on how to approach these conversations or what to emphasize would be appreciated. Just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Totally get where you're coming from. The whole 'proving your value' pressure cooker is real, especially when the economic winds are blowing strong. Focus on documenting your wins and contributions clearly. Quantify your impact wherever possible – that's the language management understands. Try to stay visible with your successes and connect your work directly to team or company goals. It might ease some of that performance review anxiety.

Yeah, it's a tough climate. I've seen similar trends where expectations seem to creep up. Don't let the external noise get to you too much. Keep doing your best work and communicating it effectively. If you have specific projects you're proud of, make sure those are highlighted. Sometimes, just having a clear understanding of your achievements can make a big difference in how you feel about these reviews.
