Take this with a massive grain of salt, but I overheard some chatter in the break room today that the support org might be facing some layoffs. Apparently, they're looking at ways to 'streamline' the customer service experience, which usually means cutting headcount. I don't have any concrete details, just a rumor from a friend of a friend who works in HR. If anyone has more info, please share. I feel bad for those folks.

Oh man, that sucks to hear. I hope it's just a rumor. Support is already stretched thin as it is. I recently had a really frustrating experience trying to get help with a billing issue, and it took forever to get a response. If they cut staff, it's only going to get worse for customers. Hopefully, Shopify realizes that good customer service is crucial for retaining merchants, especially with all the competition out there.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. "Streamlining" is corporate speak for cutting costs, and support is usually the first place they look. It's a bummer, but it's also business. My advice to anyone in support would be to update your resume ASAP and start networking. Even if the rumors aren't true, it's always good to be prepared. Polish your LinkedIn profile and reach out to some recruiters. You never know what opportunities might be out there.
