Another round, another lie about 'AI transformation'

I’m honestly exhausted. Management stood on the all-hands call today trying to spin this June 6th layoff as some visionary move toward 'AI-integrated workflows.' Give me a break. We all know the truth—burn rate is unsustainable and the advertisers aren't coming back in the numbers they promised Wall Street. It’s the same tired script: inflate the headcount during the boom, overpay for talent we didn’t need, and then butcher the workforce when the stock dips. I’ve been at Snap for four years, and this is my third time seeing my team get decimated. It’s not about the tech; it’s about the optics for the shareholders. They don't care about the product roadmap or the actual engineering debt we're drowning in. They just want the P&L to look lean for the next quarterly report. I saw some of the most talented people in my division get access cut off within five minutes of the email going out. No warning, no 'let’s find a place for you elsewhere,' just straight to the exit. If you’re still here, keep your LinkedIn status updated and your resume polished. This clearly isn't the end of the cuts.

I’ve seen this exact movie three times now since joining. It’s always the same cycle: aggressive hiring sprees followed by these hollow, corporate-speak justifications for cutting staff to appease investors. They treat the headcount like a valve they can just twist whenever the stock price wobbles. It’s exhausting to watch talented colleagues get treated like disposable assets just because leadership failed to forecast the market properly. The 'visionary' pivot is just a cheap mask for bad financial planning and a lack of real direction at the top. Honestly, the culture died the moment they started prioritizing quarterly optics over people.

Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for months. While management hides behind buzzwords about efficiency and optimization, those of us on the ground know the reality: the ad revenue isn't cutting it and we're just paying for poor decision-making from the executive team. They brought in people at premium rates for projects that never gained traction, and now the rest of us are footing the bill for their arrogance. It’s hard to stay motivated when you know that no matter how hard you work, your position is just a line item they can delete to bump the margin for an earnings report.
