Anyone else feeling the 'efficiency' squeeze lately?

It’s been quiet on the internal communications front, but the whispers in the hallways are getting louder. Ever since that last headcount reduction, the workload hasn't decreased—it's just been dumped onto those of us who weren't caught in the dragnet. I’m seeing people who have been here 15+ years looking visibly stressed, constantly checking their emails for meeting invites that look a little too 'HR-coded.' The culture shift is real. It used to feel like a stable, almost boring utility job, but now it’s all about these arbitrary productivity metrics that don't account for the reality of maintaining aging infrastructure. Is anyone else noticing that the 'strategic realignment' is just a fancy way of saying we’re doing twice the work with zero support? I’m starting to wonder if the pension is even worth the current level of burnout. Anyone heard rumors about another round hitting the engineering side soon?

I’ve been tracking the same trend in my department. It feels like the focus shifted entirely toward optics and meeting arbitrary efficiency metrics instead of actual operational integrity. When you lose that much institutional knowledge all at once, the remaining staff ends up running on fumes just to keep the lights on. The atmosphere used to be steady and reliable, but now every town hall just feels like a rehearsed performance. It’s hard to stay invested in the long-term mission when the day-to-day reality is just constant anxiety and piled-up tasks that nobody has the bandwidth to manage properly.

Hang in there. I’ve noticed the exact same pressure across different divisions. It seems like management is trying to squeeze every drop of productivity out of us to satisfy investors, totally ignoring the fact that we're stretched beyond our limits. The lack of transparent communication is the worst part—it keeps everyone on edge waiting for the next shoe to drop. People aren't just tired; they're genuinely frustrated that our tenure and expertise aren't being valued anymore. Just keep your head down, do what you can, and don't let this toxic environment erode your mental well-being.
