Those town hall meetings are purely performative. They’ll talk about 'synergies' and 'operational efficiency' while keeping the camera off to avoid seeing the collective eye-roll from the staff. It’s the same script every two years. They cut the experienced folks to juice the quarterly reports, then act surprised when the regional grids start showing cracks because nobody is left who actually knows how to run the legacy systems. Don't expect any straight answers during the Q&A session; they’ll just dodge the headcount questions until the pink slips hit the internal portals.
I’ve stopped paying attention to the corporate emails altogether. Whenever I see 'streamlining' or 'strategic realignment' in the subject line, I just update my resume and start networking. It’s not worth the stress to guess who is on the chopping block this time around. The company has prioritized dividends over people for a long time, and unfortunately, we’re all just line items on a spreadsheet. If you’re feeling the workload crunch, start documenting everything you’re doing now, but don't count on management to offer any relief or additional resources.
