Southern Company: Management really pushing 'lean' lately...

It's getting a bit much over here at Southern Company. Management is constantly talking about being 'leaner' and 'more agile.' Sounds good on paper, but what it translates to in practice is more work for fewer people, and a lot of sideways 'opportunities' that don't really go anywhere. I've seen some team structures change, and a few familiar faces have gone quiet. No official announcements, of course, just the quiet shuffling. It feels like they're trying to squeeze every last drop out before anything *official* happens, whatever that may be. My team's workload has doubled, and the pressure to hit metrics is insane. Is anyone else feeling this squeeze? It’s starting to feel like a slow-motion train wreck, and I'm just trying to figure out if I should be looking for a different train.

Honestly, I'm feeling the same way. 'Lean' seems to be the buzzword of the year, and it's hard to see the benefit for us on the ground. The constant talk about efficiency feels like a thinly veiled excuse for headcount reductions or at least a freeze. I've noticed the increased workload too, and the 'new opportunities' often feel like a way to avoid difficult conversations about staffing needs. Hoping this trend reverses before too long.

Interesting to hear others are noticing this. The emphasis on 'lean' and 'agile' is definitely a recurring theme in internal communications. While I understand the desire for operational improvements, the disconnect between the stated goals and the actual impact on employees is becoming increasingly apparent. The lack of clear communication around these changes, particularly regarding personnel shifts, only adds to the uncertainty and frustration across teams. It would be helpful to see a more transparent approach.
