WARN notice updates—are we safe?

I’ve been tracking the WARN notices and it feels like we’re playing a game of whack-a-mole across the subsidiary sites. Even though those KY filings are old news, the lingering anxiety is hitting the regional offices pretty hard. Management keeps talking about 'operational synergy' and 'optimizing our workforce,' which is basically corporate speak for 'prepare your resume.' I’ve had two friends in management positions get 'restructured' out in the last six months, and their severance packages were abysmal compared to what we saw a few years ago. If you’re at Southern, keep your LinkedIn updated and don't assume your tenure buys you any protection. Has anyone seen any credible chatter about which departments are being targeted next? I’m hearing rumors about the IT and administrative support teams being consolidated into the central hub, but nothing official yet. Stay vigilant out there, folks.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any transparency from leadership. They’ve been using the term 'synergy' as a cover for headcount reduction for years, and it’s always the same cycle. If you’re feeling the pressure, update your LinkedIn profile now rather than waiting for the next round of cuts. The regional offices are definitely feeling the heat, and history shows that when they start talking about optimization, the chopping block is never far behind. Keep your head down, do your work, and prepare for the worst.

Honestly, the constant uncertainty is the most draining part of working here. It’s a shame because the actual day-to-day operations have been stable, but the internal messaging makes it feel like the floor could drop out at any moment. I’ve seen enough colleagues get pushed out to know that 'restructuring' is just the new normal. Don’t wait for them to give you a warning; start networking and looking at other utility companies while you still have your current role. It’s better to be ready and not need it than to get caught off guard.
