Anyone else seeing hiring freezes creep in?

Been at Splunk for about 3 years now, mostly on the backend engineering side. Lately, it feels like the brakes have been applied to new hires. My manager's been really cagey about headcount for Q4, and we've had a few open reqs that just vanished. It's not a full stop, but it's definitely a noticeable slowdown. Wondering if this is just a seasonal thing or if others are seeing similar trends across different departments? Curious if this is a sign of something bigger coming down the pipe. Anyone else's team experiencing this? Trying to gauge if this is company-wide or just a weird pocket.

Yeah, I've been hearing whispers about that too. It's definitely not just you. We had a few senior roles we were trying to fill for Q3 that got put on indefinite hold, and the official line was just 'budget reallocation.' It's unnerving, for sure. Makes you wonder about the stability of things. I'm hoping it's just a temporary market correction and not a precursor to layoffs or a major strategic shift, but it's hard not to worry when the hiring tap suddenly gets turned down like this.

Interesting you mention that. I'm in a different department, but we haven't seen any slowdown. In fact, we just onboarded three new folks last month. It's possible it's department-specific or maybe a factor of what skills are in demand. Backend engineering can be pretty specialized. Could be that the specific roles that vanished weren't considered critical for Q4 goals, or there's internal reshuffling happening. Definitely worth asking your manager for more clarity if possible, even if they're being cagey.
