Is anyone else's team suddenly overloaded with 'critical' projects?

Been here for about 4 years, primarily in a customer-facing engineering role. For the last month or so, it feels like every project my team is assigned is suddenly 'mission critical' and needs to be done yesterday. My manager keeps saying it's just the end-of-year push, but it feels different. We're all burning the midnight oil, and the usual 'nice-to-have' stuff is completely off the table. It's honestly making me wonder if this is the company trying to see who's 'essential' before making some tough decisions, or just a really poorly managed Q4. Anyone else experiencing this sudden surge in 'urgent' work?

Ugh, I feel this. We've had a similar 'everything is top priority' vibe for the last quarter. Honestly, it’s exhausting and feels unsustainable. Management keeps saying it's about growth and opportunity, but it just feels like a way to wring more out of us without actually increasing headcount or resources. Hang in there, but start mentally preparing for the possibility that this is the new normal, or at least the new 'push' for a while. Maybe start documenting your hours and output really meticulously.

That 'end-of-year push' excuse is getting old, isn't it? I've seen that happen before, and sometimes it *is* just a temporary crunch. But if it's stretching into a month and feels systemic, it might be more than that. Have you guys looked at your Splunk dashboards lately? Sometimes seeing the actual resource utilization and project velocity can help provide objective data to have a conversation with management about workload. If things are truly critical, the data should reflect that, and if it doesn't, it might be an illusion.
