Anyone else seeing the back-to-office push intensifying?

Is it just my department, or is leadership really turning the screws on the 3-day RTO mandate again? It feels like every time we get a quiet week, a new email goes out tracking badge swipes or mentioning 'cultural synergy.' We all know what this is. When they can't justify the headcounts on paper anymore, they just make the environment miserable enough that people quit voluntarily. It’s the quiet layoff special. My manager is suddenly obsessed with 'availability' even though my output is the same as it’s been for two years. If they wanted to cut roles, I’d almost prefer they just rip the band-aid off instead of playing these games with badge access logs and calendar audits.

It is the same story across the entire organization right now. They claim it is about 'collaboration,' but we all know the metrics are just tools to clear the payroll without dealing with severance packages. I have watched three of my most productive colleagues leave in the last month because the commute is an unnecessary drain on our efficiency. If they want us back in the office to solve actual problems, they need to show us why our productivity at home wasn't enough. Until then, it is clearly just a purge tactic.

Honestly, I stopped checking the badge swipe emails weeks ago. If they want to push people out by making office life unbearable, they are succeeding, but they are also losing the institutional knowledge that actually keeps this company running. My manager tries to push the 'synergy' angle, but it is impossible to ignore the fact that the office is just rows of people sitting on Zoom calls anyway. It is theater at this point, and frankly, it is exhausting to watch leadership double down on this while the actual business results suffer.
