Feeling the pressure to do more with less

Is it just me, or has the workload lately become completely unsustainable? My team has lost three people to attrition over the last six months and HR refuses to open the reqs to backfill them. They keep talking about 'operational efficiency' and 'streamlining workflows,' but all that really means is those of us left are doing two jobs for the same salary. There’s a rumor floating around that another restructuring plan is being drafted at the leadership level, but nobody is saying anything officially. The silence from management is honestly more stressful than just coming out and saying there’s a problem. I’m exhausted, my metrics are slipping because I’m stretched so thin, and I’m terrified that if I miss a target, I’ll be the next one on the chopping block during the next round of 'strategic adjustments.' Does anyone have any actual intel on whether a formal reduction is coming, or are they just going to keep pushing us until we quit voluntarily?

It is definitely not just you. The 'operational efficiency' buzzword is corporate speak for squeezing the remaining staff until they burn out. I have been at SBD for years and have never seen morale this low. They are so focused on trimming the fat that they are cutting into the bone, leaving us to pick up the slack for vacant roles that will clearly never be backfilled. Keep your resume polished because this cycle of 'restructuring' never ends well for the people actually doing the work.

Honestly, the silence from management is the most frustrating part. We are all hearing the same whispers about more cuts, yet they keep pushing for higher output with fewer resources. It feels like a sinking ship where the captains are just rearranging deck chairs instead of addressing the real issues. If you are struggling to keep up, do not feel guilty about letting some tasks slide. You cannot sacrifice your mental health for a company that treats headcount like a line item on a spreadsheet.
