Hearing whispers about potential cuts soon. Anyone else seeing/hearing things?

Been at State Street for about 5 years now, mostly in operations on the back-end processing side. Lately, the vibe has been... tense. Lots of closed-door meetings, my manager is cagey when asked about team structure for next quarter, and there's been a weird freeze on discretionary spending. Just got an email about 'efficiency initiatives' which usually means headcount reduction is on the table. Anyone else in different departments getting similar signals? Trying to figure out if this is company-wide or just specific teams feeling the heat.

Yeah, I'm hearing similar stuff on my side of the house too. It's definitely not just you. The 'efficiency' talk is a classic precursor to layoffs, unfortunately. My advice? Start updating your resume and networking aggressively, even if it's just to keep your options open. It feels like a lot of firms are tightening up right now, so being proactive is probably the smartest move. Hope it doesn't come to anything, but it's better to be prepared.

That sounds pretty concerning, but to be honest, I haven't felt any of that tension where I am. My department is actually picking up steam, new projects are being approved, and my manager is talking about hiring for a couple of roles. Maybe it's specific to certain divisions or locations? Could be a targeted restructuring rather than a company-wide purge. Try to get more concrete information before you panic, if you can.
