Synchrony - Are we seeing a spike in involuntary attrition?

Has anyone else noticed an uptick in sudden departures in their department lately? Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen two long-tenured managers in my org just vanish from the directory without a 'moving on to a new adventure' email. When I asked a skip-level, they gave the standard 'focusing on organizational efficiency' line, which usually means they’re clearing house quietly to avoid a WARN notice or bad press. The vibes in the office (and on Slack) are shifting. Productivity targets are being pushed to absurd levels despite the so-called 'hiring freeze' that has most teams operating with a skeleton crew. It feels like the company is trying to squeeze us for everything we've got before they announce a broader restructuring. If you’re seeing empty seats and crickets from leadership, drop a comment. I’m trying to figure out if this is just standard performance management or if the ship is actually taking on water.

I’ve seen the exact same thing in my department. It’s definitely not just you. Three people in my immediate circle disappeared overnight last week, and management acted like they never existed. The 'organizational efficiency' excuse is such a tired script at this point. Everyone knows what’s happening, but the lack of transparency is making it impossible to stay focused. It feels like we are all just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and the constant silence from leadership is creating a really toxic environment. Honestly, I’m polishing my resume tonight.

You aren’t imagining things. The atmosphere here has been incredibly tense lately, and the disappearing act from long-tenured folks is becoming a recurring theme across multiple departments. It’s clearly a strategy to stay under the radar and avoid any public fallout or legal triggers. If you’re seeing empty desks and silent Slack channels, it’s a massive red flag. Management knows exactly what they’re doing, and it isn’t for the sake of the employees. Just keep your head down, do your work, and prepare for the worst. It’s looking pretty grim.
