That’s brutal timing. Doing this right before the holidays is completely heartless, even if the rumors have been circulating for months. Management loves to talk about long-term growth and hitting targets, but they clearly don't care about the actual humans behind the headcount. My heart goes out to everyone at the Sunnyvale site who is currently stuck waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s impossible to focus on deadlines when you’re constantly wondering if you’ll still have a desk next week. Stay strong, and keep updating your resumes just in case.
Unfortunately, this is becoming the standard playbook for the industry lately. Everyone gets nervous after the quarterly earnings calls, but seeing the WARN notice makes it hit differently. It sucks that employees are being treated as disposable numbers to please shareholders, especially with the holiday season approaching. If you are part of the impacted group, make sure you document everything and look into your severance packages immediately. To those still hanging on in the office, use this time to network and reach out to your colleagues. It’s a small industry, and supporting each other is the only way through this.
