It is definitely happening across the board, not just in your department. I have seen the same shift in policy over the last few weeks, and it is pretty obvious they are trying to curb spending to make the balance sheet look better before the next earnings call. When they start holding routine site visits up for executive review, you know things are getting tight. They keep pointing to 'operational efficiency,' but we all know that is just corporate code for cutting costs wherever they can find them.
Honestly, I stopped trying to plan any travel weeks ago. Even the essentials are being blocked unless you have a VP signing off on it, which is basically impossible right now. The silence from leadership regarding the Q4 outlook is the real red flag here. It feels like they are bracing for impact, and the rank-and-file are going to be the ones absorbing the cost through these restrictions. Keep your head down and document everything; if a restructure is coming, they aren't going to tell us until it's already a done deal.
