Quiet departures in Investment Management?

Is anyone else noticing the number of 'not found' profiles in the internal directory lately? It seems like every week I go to ping someone in one of the middle-office teams and their Slack status is just gone. No formal company-wide announcement, no 'best of luck' emails, just quiet exits. I know leadership keeps saying we are focusing on efficiency and tech transformation, but the atmosphere on the floor feels heavy. I’ve heard whispers about the Q2 budget being tightened further, but nobody in management will give a straight answer about whether there is a target headcount reduction. I've been here for over five years, and this is the most 'on-edge' I've seen the office. Are we just doing soft layoffs to avoid the WARN notice requirements, or am I just reading into the turnover too much? If you're in one of the departments that's been impacted, please share if there was any actual severance or if they’re just squeezing people out through performance reviews. The silence is making everyone paranoid.

I’ve noticed the same thing. The directory clean-out happens almost every Friday now. It is incredibly demoralizing to see people just vanish without a word. They keep selling this 'efficiency' narrative, but it’s clear they are just trimming headcount to protect margins while the rest of us are left to cover the gaps. If you feel like the floor is heavy, you aren't imagining it; everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Honestly, this is just standard T. Rowe operating procedure at this point. They never do public goodbyes because they don’t want the optics of mass exits distracting the teams. It is all about the budget targets and Q2 pressures. My advice? Don’t get attached to anyone’s status. Focus on your own output, keep your head down, and keep your resume updated. At this firm, you are only as safe as the next quarterly report.
