Stagnant bonus pools and 'optimizing' budgets

Just got out of my performance review and it was a complete joke. Despite the company touting solid performance in the latest filings, the message from leadership is all about 'tightening the belt' and 'cost optimization.' My manager couldn't even give me a straight answer on why the bonus multiplier was gutted, just kept repeating that we need to be 'prudent' given the current macro environment. It feels like they are keeping us in a holding pattern while they prepare for something bigger. If you’re at a certain grade level, you’re basically expected to do the work of two people because they’ve frozen backfills for anyone who leaves voluntarily. It’s burnout city over here, and I don’t think it’s an accident. They want us exhausted so we don't put up a fight when the real news drops. Stay ready, keep your networks warm, and don't drink the Kool-Aid about us being a 'family'—we're just line items on a spreadsheet.

I’ve been hearing the exact same script during my review. It’s always the same story: record quarterly results paired with 'challenging headwinds' that somehow only affect the employees' pockets. It feels like they’re intentionally squeezing us to pad the margins for shareholders while we do the heavy lifting. I’m starting to think 'optimization' is just corporate code for cutting what matters most to the staff while expecting us to maintain the same output. It’s exhausting to keep grinding when the goalposts move every single year.

Look, it’s not just you. The culture at TE has definitely shifted toward pure cost-containment over the last couple of cycles. When management stops being transparent about the bonus pool metrics, it usually means they’ve already allocated that capital elsewhere. Don't waste your energy looking for logic in their excuses; they're just checking boxes to satisfy HR policy. If you’re feeling the stagnation, it’s time to start looking at what the competition is offering. Loyalty doesn't seem to be a currency they value anymore.
