Seeing the notice on the WARN site for the Toledo location brought back some bad memories. For those of you who weren't in that loop, they laid off 84 people right after Christmas in 2022. It was a massive gut punch for the team. If you're reading this and worried about your job security, just know that the company doesn't care about your tenure or your 'Life Out Here' stickers when it comes to the bottom line. When they started moving things around, we all thought our roles were safe until the official notice hit the desk. My advice? Start backing up your personal files, update your resume, and don't drink the Kool-Aid. TSCO likes to act like a big, happy rural family until it's time to report to Wall Street, then you're just another line item they can cut to save a few pennies on the EPS. Don't wait until the 'all-hands' meeting to start planning your exit strategy.

That 2022 layoff was absolutely brutal. It really changed the morale for those of us who stayed behind, seeing how quickly they could pivot and cut ties with so many dedicated employees. The whole 'Life Out Here' marketing campaign feels pretty hollow when you realize how expendable everyone is once the corporate numbers start looking shaky. It’s hard to trust leadership after seeing people let go right before the holidays like that. Protect your own interests, because nobody else in that office is going to do it for you.

I remember reading about that Toledo closure and thinking it was a sign of things to come. It’s a harsh reality check that corporate loyalty is basically a myth. You can work hard for years, hit all your metrics, and buy into the company culture, but at the end of the day, it is just a spreadsheet to them. If you’re feeling uneasy about your position right now, definitely start dusting off your resume and networking elsewhere. It is better to have an exit plan ready than to get blindsided when they decide to trim the budget.
