Lansing exit aftermath - what are we actually seeing?

Looking back at the 81 affected in that Michigan site closure, I’m curious if those of us currently in other regions are truly safe or just next on the list. I’ve been analyzing our internal site utilization and it feels like leadership is obsessed with consolidating roles into lower-cost regions while pushing the 'global synergy' narrative. The severance packages back then were decent enough, but they made you jump through so many hoops to get the full payout. Has anyone else noticed the uptick in consultants walking around the floor lately? Every time I see a suit with a clipboard, I assume they’re scouting for the next round of cuts. It’s impossible to focus on actual project deliverables when everyone is constantly checking LinkedIn. If you’re in a support role, honestly, start polishing the resume now. The company is prioritizing stock buybacks and margin expansion over human capital every single time.

The consolidation trend isn't just a hunch; it’s the standard playbook now. I’ve watched multiple mid-level roles get absorbed into the offshore hubs over the last eighteen months. Leadership loves to talk about 'global synergy' to mask the fact that they’re stripping back overhead to boost quarterly margins. If your site isn't hitting specific utilization metrics, it’s only a matter of time before they start scrutinizing your headcount. Don't buy into the safety talk—start updating your resume while the severance is still an option, because they definitely won't be as generous during the next round of cuts.

Honestly, the anxiety is understandable, but let's look at the actual operational goals. They aren't just cutting for the sake of it; they are aggressively pivoting toward HVAC automation and sustainable tech infrastructure. Lansing was a legacy site that didn't align with the newer, leaner manufacturing model they’re forcing everywhere else. I don't think everyone is next, but if you’re in a support role that can be digitized or offloaded, you're obviously at higher risk. Keep your head down and focus on making yourself essential to the high-growth product lines, because that’s where the budget is actually landing.
