It is definitely happening across the board. I have seen the same churn in my department, where experienced leads are being pushed out or just quitting because the expectations have become completely unrealistic. The messaging about 'efficiency' is just corporate speak for doing three people’s jobs for the same salary. Leadership is chasing short-term margins to keep the stock price up while the people who actually run the projects are being burnt out. Don't expect it to change soon; this seems to be the current operating model for the foreseeable future.
You are not imagining things. The atmosphere in the offices has shifted significantly over the last few quarters. It feels like there is a constant underlying anxiety because no one knows who is on the chopping block next. Every time they talk about streamlining, it really means they are gutting the middle tier to make the numbers look better on a spreadsheet. It is hard to stay motivated when you see your direct supervisors stressed out and unable to provide any real guidance. Keep your resume updated, because this volatility is the new baseline.
