Anyone else seeing the uptick in 'documentation' requirements?

Is it just me, or has the micromanagement hit a fever pitch lately? My manager has started asking for granular, task-by-task breakdowns of every hour in my day. It feels less like actual oversight and more like they’re building a case for something. I’ve been here for over five years and I’ve never seen this level of documentation being forced upon us. A few of the senior folks in my department are whispering that this usually precedes a 'restructuring' or a RIF where they need to justify why specific roles are being eliminated. The atmosphere is tense, to say the least. Everyone is keeping their head down, but the slack messages are drying up and nobody is laughing at the water cooler anymore. If they are planning to trim the headcount, I really wish they’d just rip the band-aid off instead of making us jump through these hoops for three months first. Anyone else experiencing this 'extra visibility' push in their division?

I've definitely noticed the same trend lately. It feels like they are suddenly obsessed with tracking every single minute of our output, almost as if they are looking for a reason to justify cutting headcount. I have been here a while too, and this shift toward hyper-detailed reporting is definitely a red flag. It’s hard not to feel like they’re trying to build a paper trail to let people go without it looking like a typical layoff. Keep your head down and start backing up your personal files just in case.

Honestly, it sounds like standard corporate panic mode. Every time management starts pushing for these granular breakdowns, it’s usually because they need to present 'efficiency metrics' to the higher-ups to keep their own jobs safe. It’s exhausting and insulting to those of us who have been delivering results for years without needing a babysitter. Don’t let the micromanagement get to you personally, but definitely take it as a sign to update your resume and start testing the waters elsewhere while things are still stable.
