Travelers: My department just lost 2 key people - no explanation

Okay, this is starting to feel less like rumors and more like a pattern. Two people in my direct team, both senior-level, were let go yesterday with no prior warning or performance issues that I'm aware of. It wasn't a disciplinary thing, just a quiet 'your role has been eliminated' conversation. HR was tight-lipped, and our manager is clearly under some kind of gag order. No mention of layoffs officially from leadership, but this feels like it. We weren't given any severance details, just told they'd be contacted by HR. Is this happening elsewhere? Feels really sudden and unsettling. There's zero transparency, and it's creating a lot of anxiety.
